Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
At JRL Granite & Marble, we believe in providing our clients with all the information they need to make informed decisions about their natural stone projects. Here are some of the most common questions we receive:
What is the difference between granite, marble, and quartz?
Granite is a very hard, durable, and heat-resistant natural stone, making it an excellent choice for kitchen countertops. It comes in a wide variety of colors and patterns.
•Marble is a classic and elegant natural stone known for its beautiful veining. It is softer than granite and requires more care to prevent staining and etching.
•Quartz is an engineered stone made from a combination of natural quartz crystals, resins, and pigments. It is non-porous, highly durable, and requires no sealing.
Which is better for a kitchen countertop, granite or marble?
For most kitchens, we recommend granite due to its superior durability, heat resistance, and resistance to scratches and stains. Marble is a beautiful option but is more susceptible to damage in a high-traffic kitchen environment.
How long do granite and marble countertops last?
With proper care and maintenance, granite countertops can last a lifetime (100+ years). Marble countertops can also last for many decades (50+ years), but require more diligent care to maintain their appearance.

Simply contact us to schedule a free in-home consultation. We will measure your space, discuss your material options, and provide you with a detailed quote for your project.
How long does the installation process take?
The actual installation of your countertops typically takes just one day. However, the entire process, from initial measurement and templating to fabrication and final installation, usually takes a few weeks.
What do I need to do to prepare for installation?
To ensure a smooth installation, please clear all items from your existing countertops and the surrounding areas. Ensure there is a clear path for our installers to carry in the new countertops. If necessary, please arrange for a plumber to disconnect your sink and a professional to disconnect any appliances.
Will my countertops have seams?
Most larger kitchens will require seams in the countertops. Our expert installers are highly skilled at minimizing the visibility of seams by carefully matching the stone’s pattern and using a color-matched epoxy.
Are granite countertops heat resistant?
Yes, granite is highly resistant to heat. You can place hot pots and pans directly on the surface without causing damage. However, we still recommend using trivets as a precautionary measure.
Can I cut directly on my granite countertop?
While granite is very scratch-resistant, we do not recommend cutting directly on the surface. Doing so can dull your knives and, in rare cases, may cause minor scratches.
Do my countertops need to be sealed?
Yes, both granite and marble are natural stones and are porous to some degree. We apply a high-quality sealant during installation to protect your countertops from stains. We recommend resealing your granite every 1-2 years and your marble annually.
How do I clean my granite and marble countertops?
For daily cleaning, simply use a soft cloth with warm water and a mild, pH-neutral soap. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the sealant and the stone’s surface.
